What is BPH?
BPH or benign prostatic hyperplasia (also known as enlarged prostate) is a common condition of prostate overgrowth leading to restriction in urination. See our main page or the video above for further information on BPH.
What is UroLift?
UroLift is a minimally invasive BPH procedure which involves placing small implants into the prostate that pin back and compress the overgrown prostate creating a wider channel for urination.
Who Should Consider a UroLift?
Men who are looking for a minimally invasive BPH procedure should consider UroLift. Traditional prostate surgeries typically require a 1-2 day hospital stay and a catheter for a period of time. Most traditional options also affect your sexual function, specifically ejaculation. If you have concerns about catheterization, hospitalization, or sexual side effects, UroLift may be for you.
How is the UroLift Procedure Performed?
Depending on your choice of having the procedure done in the office or surgery center, you will be given nitrous or intravenous sedation. Numbing medication is then instilled and a camera placed through your urethra. Your prostate is identified and 4-6 UroLift implants inserted until a clear channel is visualized. This process can take as little as 5 minutes.
What to Expect After the Procedure?
UroLift is performed either in the office or surgery center settings. In both cases, you can expect to go home the same day without a catheter in most instances. It is common to have burning and some blood in your urine after the procedure. In general, you will start seeing improvement after 2-3 weeks and continue to improve even up to 3 months after the procedure.
